Maddie is a 13 year old beagle mix, with the mind and the stamina of a 6 year old. She is a big larger than a typical beagle but acts like one through and through. Maddie is crate and house trained and is currently being fostered in Brantford, Ontario. Maddie came to us after her owner passed away. A local kennel, where she was staying, reached out to us and asked if we might be able to help her find a good retirement home.
Maddie currently lives with another dog that, after proper introductions, she has made good friends with! Maddie is not a fan of puppies or pushy dogs that get in her face. When introduced to dogs that behave in a rude manner, she is not afraid to be their grandma and correct them. With dogs that give her space, with time, she becomes good friends with them and plays well with them - even runs and plays the game of chase in the yard!
Maddie is not suited for a home with cats. She will hunt them, which is not a surprise given her breed. She is good with kids above 10 years of age but has not been tested with younger children. Maddie is great on leash and does best with a slip lead with treats as her primary reward. She is ready for 5km’s of walking a day and also loves tons of time outside in her yard to use her nose. She loves to hunt, chew sticks and will play with her foster sister for short periods of time. She also loves stuffies with working squeakers that she can kill and once she has done so, taking a good nap on the couch is how she likes to get ready for her next adventure.
Maddie, like many beagles, is a little bit too smart when it comes to food. She will find any and all food to hover. On multiple occasions, she has opened cupboards where she knows there is food and helped herself to her foster sisters kibble. Her forever family must be willing to Maddie-proof their home!
