We would like to formally introduce you to a lovely gentleman, Salem. Salem is a 3 year old Northern Mix (Labrador, husky, shepherd). This big sweetheart came to us from a Northern Community and has been in his foster home for a few months now. Salem is ready to find his forever family. One that is going to give him a house-dog life; one where he is loved and spoiled. Salem is a medium energy dog who loves to be outside, exploring the world, but also loves to take a rest day when his foster mom needs it.

Salem is good with most dogs, although he does not like dominant males. Since coming to us, he has made many canine friends through proper introductions. When he is on his walks with his foster mom, he occasionally struggles with leash reactivity. For the most part, it is when another dog barks at him. His reactivity seems to come from overexcitement and is something that his foster mom has been working on with him. Otherwise, while he is on leash, he is relatively well behaved but does love good spots to sniff and watch squirrels pass him by.

Salem absolutely adores all humans and would love as many human friends as possible. He is learning how to politely say hi, especially since he is such a big boy, but he has been getting more respectful with his foster moms help. Salem is house and crate trained and loves to use his crate for a really good nap! If his foster mom is up and moving around the house though, he likes to follow her to make sure she doesn’t forget he exists. Salem absolutely loves attention, playing fetch and being spoiled with belly rubs!

At the vet, Salem is well mannered but he is slightly nervous/hesitant. We like to think it’s because they have him on a weight loss plan, but it is something that we are working on with him. Salem came to us approximately 20lbs overweight and we are working on getting him down to a healthy weight through both proper meals and exercise. Since arriving, Salem has lost a few pounds, gained some energy and seems happier!

Currently, Salem knows sit, down, up (to jump up onto something and to stand up), crate, go, come/here, drop it and he will even use a bell to let his foster mom know that he needs to go outside. Salem is a smart and food motivated boy who is very happy to work and train when asked to.

Here’s what Salem’s foster mom wanted you to know:

Salem is the sweetest soul, all he aims to do is love and show he is being good. Being good is what makes him happy over treats. He doesn’t have a mean bone in him. He can be

sensitive and very curious at times but it’s all in the purest way possible. He is a very silly boy who loves to play and get belly rubs. He deserves a loving home where he has people to hang out with and hopefully a yard to run around in.
