This boy is probably our goofiest; one that will put a smile on your face each and every day - Dougie! Dougie is a 1 year old husky lab mix. He came to us from a Northern Community after being hit by a car and needing surgery. When Dougie was around 8 months old, he had a FHO surgery after breaking his hip in his accident. Since then, he has been working towards regaining normal muscle mass and function of his left hind leg. Overall, he is doing well, but he does have some days where, after strenuous activity, he will show his foster parents that he needs a bit of rest.

Dougie is great with other dogs and loves people! Dougie is also good with cats but has a huge prey drive for squirrels and small animals outdoors; so much so that he will scale a tree to try to get to them. Dougie loves humans and will request any and all pets from those who want to meet him. Dougie would do well in a home with older kids or one without kids. He is crate and house trained as well.

Dougie is great on leash! The only time when he reacts is when he sees a squirrel. In those moments, he becomes quite alert to them and ready to run if you let him; sadly, he is not as fast as he thinks he is. Dougie gets a few walks a day and sometimes has a play date with a dog friend to fully complete his week. He absolutely loves having a yard so we are hoping that we can make that happen for him.

This handsome fella has done well with our veterinary team and is always happy to get extra treats when he is there. He is a smart boy but likes to put on a facade sometimes. Currently, he knows sit, down, stay and crate and is learning paw and come! Dougie’s foster parents have been working hard on his recall and so far, he is doing well with some long line guidance.

Take a look at what Dougie’s foster family wanted you to know:

I have seen a lot of dogs through the years, and I can 100% say that Dougie means everything he does, and he does it with his heart. I don’t think he has an aggressive bone in his body. He chews on his toys but doesn’t rip them to shreds, he plays with other dogs by just chasing them around and playing, and he’s so gentle when he takes treats or food from your hands.

He does have room to grow, but not much. Like I said we’re working on recall and leash walking right now, and it would be nice to teach him fetch which is something we’re doing, but other than that, he has no down sides to him. I can 100% say that he’s such a happy dog, as long he has food, people to be around and stuff to see and do, he will be the happiest dude. He is such a good dog, and he will become your best friend in no time!
